Hey all, I have a suggestion for the next title in Treyarch/Activision's Call of Duty series. Now, I myself am a historical fiction writer---especially World War I and II---and the thought occurred to me that considering the success of COD World at War (back in 2008) that the company could contemplate making another game similar to that. This is just my thoughts. Hear me out, NAZIS aside, this game would take place in an alternate timeline. Imagine a scenario immediately after WWII if not the 1950's where the Western Allies and the Soviet Union go to war. "Call of Duty: World at War --- Continuum." Gameplay would contain two separate story-lines with two separate endings for each path (four altogether), similar to the alternate ending of Black Ops 2. The player can either choose to fight as the Allies or the Soviets, both containing their own main character. Fighting as the Soviet Union, the player would push the Allies out of Europe and the Mediterranean eventually even (hypothetically) mounting an invasion of the United States' East coast. Missions would include possible cities like Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Brussels, Strasbourg, Paris, Rome, Dover, London and (maybe even) New York or Washington D.C. Fighting as the Allies, the player would do the opposite as the first campaign by dismantling the Soviet presence (BLOC) in Europe and the Balkans. Play as the British, French and Americans. Missions would include possible cities like Prague, Warsaw, Belgrade, Budapest, Kiev, Minsk, Smolensk and (maybe even) Moscow. The alternate endings would come varied depending on what decisions the player makes (or could be easter eggs that require SPECIFIC actions to progress in that alternate direction.) For the Soviets the alternate ending could be go nuclear, like that seen in Hiroshima and Nagasaki...the Allies last resort. The irradiated ruins of a city would make for an interesting level. For the Allies the alternate ending could end in espionage or assassination...the death of President Truman or an assault on Alaska. It really depends on what a developer would see as pulse pounding content worth replaying the game over. (Shrugs) Chase scenes, tank skirmishes and (yes) stealth missions would be quite encouraged. The game would present the brutality and destruction of war as it is, not glorify it. Full immersion would be key, something World at War did perfectly. Bringing back Sean Murray as composer would complete the experience.
Zombies:
On-board an aircraft carrier---escape option? (see Mob of the Dead)
Beneath the streets of Paris---catacombs?
In the irradiated ruins of Warsaw---special infected?
Trapped within the frozen hell of Siberia's GOLAG---special mechanics?
Lost within the murky, poisonous fog that permeates Manhattan's desolate streets and sky-scrappers---drew a blank.... (shrugs)
The list goes on.
DLC (yes I considered it) could include:
A mini campaign in Asia (similar to the Korean War). Expect to face hordes of Communist Chinese as the player fights alongside the Allied nations. Repel the invasion of Japan, march through Korea's mountains, Taiwan's ruined cities and through the plains of China itself. <Scorched Earth policy?>
Another mini campaign in Antarctica (similar to Operation Highjump). Journey to the end of the world on the hunt for Nazi fugitives. Fight through dense South American jungles to find the truth then forge across the barren arctic wasteland and exterminate the remainder of Hitler's Third Reich.
Suggestions and comments are welcome, this is just an idea I cooked up one afternoon. Would be interesting for Treyarch to do another World at War. If this thread is to be doomed for scrap, so be it, I saved my concept elsewhere.
