After three days of research, calling companies and driving to bestbuy and my ISP i have found the solution. it is quite simple. (also, this can open nat for multiple xbox 360s and PCs.)
1. A modem-router combination will not grant you multiple open nat types. (at least the 160$ motorola one i bought will not.) i have been told that they usually gimp these combo equipment.
2. You need a modem provided free (more than likely) by your ISP.
3. You need a Gaming Router. i traded the Motorola modem-router combo, which can be found at LINK1, for a 160$ netgear router which can be found at LINK2.
4. After setup of both your ISP provided modem and netgear router, enter your router settings. (should be 192.168.1.x [im not 100% sure if this is correct but my IP was 192.168.1.1])
5. go to wan settings and set Nat from ()secure to ()open.
6. make sure upnp is enabled.
7. on your ps3 manually set your IP address so it is static (you can find how to set a static ip on youtube)
8. enable ur ps3's upnp
9. make sure you have a wired connection, this should work, i was able to setup in less than 30 minutes.
10. also after connecting all of your equipment together, and there seems to be something wrong with you internet, shut off all qequipment for at least 5 minutes. if there is still a problem call ur isp help line, and ask them "can u check to see if my modem is provisioned, and if there are any faults in my hardware." they will check your modem to make sure everything is working correctly.
so remember modem-router combos will not work, they are gimped. thats all i have to say, and this i think is the only way you can achieve an open nat type. you may be able to buy a mid level netgear router rather than the high level. this will save you 50$.
and seeing how christmas is coming up! if anyone is getting an additional ps3 (or 360) for their house, i highly recommend you do this, or else you will not be abe to experience a great online experience.
