When I click on the link provided in the email I received to verify my email address for COD: Elite, I am directed to a page that requires authentication. It won't take the information I used to sign up, and it gives me a 401 error if I hit cancel. My email is yahoo, and I'm running Firefox 6.0.2 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. There is another thread for this same problem, but it wasn't well put together. Here is the exact verbiage used on the authentication prompt and 401 error code page:
A username and password are being requested by https://uat.callofduty.com. The site says: "This is a protected area"
401 Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.
On a similar note, the COD: Elite FAQ link as per http://community.callofduty.com/thread/100508346 redirects to a 404 error page.
